How to get the fragrant smell out of a ceramic oil burning ring?
I was wondering, I have this ceramic ring, you place it atop a light bulb, put oil in the ring and then the heat form the bulb heats the ring and the oil in it, thereby releasing the fragrance. But because ceramic absorbs the oils, I want to know how to get the smell out of the ring, so that when I next burn it with some new fragrant oil, the fragrance from the previous oil does not mix with the new oil? Any ideas? Someone suggested bicarbonate of soda. Any more suggestions? I have been told that metal rings are also available, but can't find one anywhere here in Sydney. Thanks all.
It may be difficult because unsealed ceramic is so porous. I would recommend trying bicarbonate of soda and vinegar, together. Place the ring in the sink and wet it with water. Then sprinkle with bicarb. Spray or pour white vinegar over it. It will start to fizz because the alkaline and the acid are reacting to each other. Let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub and rinse. Both vinegar and bicarb are deodorizers, and they work well together to remove oily residues. The vinegar smell dissipates as it dries.
Another suggestion is to make a paste of bicarb and a liquid dish soap. Apply it to the ring and let it sit for 20 minutes or so. Scrub and rinse well.
